So this morning I was catching up on Lynn Sweet's excellent column for the Sun-Times, and I noticed this key sentence:
"There will be a fight."
She was writing, of course, about Judge Roberts' nomination to the Supreme Court. And she is one of the only people who said this, on July 20. Everyone else on this date said that Roberts was bulletproof, ensconced in a glossy coating of corn-fed, ivy-bred, brilliant jurist golden glow.
Sweet points to Senator Durbin's refusal to vote for Judge Roberts in committee because he would not answer ideological questions. And then she trails off into a "watch the Gang14".
My question is: Is this Sweet's prediction of the predictable behavior of Aron and Co.? Or is it just possible that she knows something we don't know, perhaps regarding Senator Durbin?
Although Sen Durbin has been fairly moderated in his comments of late, perhaps this was inspired by the mini-flap over a potentially touchy Catholicism question-- I'm waiting to see if maybe just maybe Lynn Sweet knows Senator Durbin well enough to know when he's fixin to fight.
